Amish Community - Aylmer

A true Amish settlement provides these settlers to Canada with freedom of their religion and culture. Known for their farming expertise they offer greatly to our economy. There is an Amish owned vegetable warehouse , cooled by the ice blocks from winter, which collects the produce and packs the trucks headed for Toronto. Other handcrafted items – furniture, wood stoves, harnesses, – are also offered throughout the community. A full complement of 4 schools, printing shop, flour mills, etc, all support the Amish way of life.

This area bordered by hwy 3 to the north, College Line to the South, Springerhill Rd to the East and Walker Rd to the West, is populated with many Amish families and their home businesses and farms. Our Amish neighbours travel by horse and buggy and travelers are reminded to reduce speed and be aware of slower moving vehicles. Please respect the privacy and religious beliefs of this community, particulary, that they do not welcome business on Sunday and do not allow pictures to be taken.

This quilt block, "Diamond in the Square", is a traditional Amish design of plain colours and detailed stitching.
