Springerhill Farms Inc - Eden

This beautiful new dairy facility of Harry and Grace Schipper and son Darryl, was recently constructed in 2010 and is home to 200 milking cows. The facility was created around the comfort for the cows and includes modern and innovative ideas to North America such as the recycled organic bedding. Harry's parents immigrated to Canada from Brazil in 1973 and started dairy farming in the Aylmer area. Harry and Grace started their own dairy farm in 1978 here in Bayham Township and decided to build their new facility on the same property. There are also two other brothers of Harry with their own dairy farms in Malahide Township.

Dairy farming in East Elgin, particularly Malahide Township, is the dairy hub of the County of Elgin and indeed of the Southern Ontario counties. The immigration of dairy farming families has influenced the face of farming here and also of the supporting businesses.

The quilt block, “Milky Way”, is symbolic of the dairy farming contribution to East Elgin.
