Pinecroft Ceramic Art Studio - Aylmer

The peaceful serenity of Pinecroft Ceramic Art Studio carries you back to a less hurried time and provides the ideal setting for creative artists. The scent of the towering pines, the sounds of the birds and the calm of the waterfalls call to mind the heart of a Northern Muskoka Forest.
In the 1920’s Arthur Caverly planted 85,000 pine seedlings on the property and dredged the 2 1/2 acre lake with a team of horses. In 1948 Arthur’s daughter Selma Caverly and her husband Jimmie Clennell opened Pinecroft as a small pottery studio that wholesaled pottery to nearly 200 gift shops across Canada. Second generation studio potter Brenda (Caverly) Smith returned to Pinecroft in 1972 to continue the family business. This thriving family-run establishment has produced fine quality earthenware and stoneware pottery for 64 years and is considered to be Canada’s oldest continuously operating pottery studio.
Visit the studio where the pottery is made, take a hands-on pottery workshop, or purchase a truly Canadian souvenir at the Gift Shop. The Pinecroft Gallery and Gift Shop occupy an original log cabin that was built in 1934 and offer a wide range of functional pieces including complete dinner sets. The work of associate potter Tony Clennell is also available for purchase. Clennell is an adjunct professor at Sheridan College and has taught pottery workshops in Canada, the United States, Japan, China and Italy.
For the full Pinecroft experience visit the Green Frog Tea Room for quality country fare that is fresh, locally sourced and is served on handmade pottery dishes. Throughout the year various evening meals are presented at Thanksgiving and Christmas or by special appointment.
New to Pinecroft is a unique music experience. The Jammin’ Cabin has grown out of a love of music and life and as such has brought another dimension of the arts to Pinecroft.: most Sundays to 1-4 pm. .….on the edge of the pond facing a grassy clearing the music drifts across the water and sweeps under the trees.
If the serene location of Pinecroft is something that you wish to savour a little longer , Selma’s Cabin B&B offers a unique retreat. The cabin is the first one built at Pinecroft by Arthur “Art” Caverly in 1934Selma’s Cabin has been renovated to provide 2 guest rooms each with an en suite bath and private deck. Selma’s Cabin has a comfortable common room with a field stone fireplace, cozy furniture, books to read and art to enjoy.
The quilt block, “The PineTree”, perfectly depicts the nature of the forest at Pinecroft.
